Other Family Visas

Child Visa

An Australian permanent visa is available to dependent children of an Australian citizen, permanent resident and an eligible New Zealand citizen.

VISA REQUIREMENTS OF THE VISA APPLICANT:
​

  • the applicant must be under 18 years of age, or;

    • if studying full time and dependent, under the age of 25, or;

    • 18 years of age or older and must not be able to work due to disability.

  • must be single

  • must meet health requirements

  • if over the age of 16, must meet certain character requirements.

 

VISA REQUIREMENTS OF THE VISA SPONSOR:
​

  • must be the child’s parent or step-parent

  • must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen

  • must be at least 18 years of age

  • must meet character requirements

  • must provide the applicant with accommodation and help with settlement in Australia.

 

WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO:
​

  • unlimited travel facility for up to five (5) years

  • work and study in Australia

  • access to Australia’s publicly funded universal healthcare system (Medicare)

  • sponsor eligible relatives for a permanent visa in Australia.

Remaining Relative Visa

This is an Australian permanent visa available to a remaining close relative of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

 
VISA REQUIREMENTS:

  • the Australian sponsor has to be the last remaining relative of the applicant

  • must meet health and character requirements.

 
WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU TO DO:
​

  • access to Australia’s publicly funded universal healthcare system (Medicare)

  • full work and study rights

  • unlimited travel facility for up to 5 years

  • this visa subclass is capped and currently the waiting period is approximately 30 years.

Carer Visa

This is an Australian permanent visa available to close family members of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who requires care and assistance due to a medical condition.

 
VISA ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
​

  • you have a relative who is an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen

  • your Australian relative has a long-term health condition that is assessed by Australian medical providers as being one that needs additional help and support which cannot be provided by other Australian health service providers

  • you are willing and able to provide help and care for your relative

  • you and your family members must meet health and character requirements.

 
WHAT THIS VISA ALLOWS YOU DO:
​

  • if your visa is granted, you are eligible to bring your family with you to Australia

  • unlimited travel facility to and from Australia for up to five (5) years

  • access to Australia’s publicly funded universal healthcare system (Medicare)

  • there is a high demand for family migration visas and only a limited number of places – applications are processed in the order in which they are lodged

  • carer visa applications are subject to capping and queuing arrangements – your application is considered in two stages and visa processing may take longer than other visa subclasses.
